Measuring P.D

Why is it important to measure your pupil distance before ordering new glasses? The Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance from one eye to the next. Usually the nearly pupil is 3-4 mm less than far pupil. The purpose of measuring pupil distance is to insure that each lens is aligned with your unique set of eyes. This will also increase the comfort of your new set of eyeglasses. Inaccurate PD measurement may lead to user experiencing vision fatigue, dizziness and nausea. Please be advised that most optometrists do not provide this important information in the prescriptions. Remember to ask your optometrist for your PD information. You can also measure your PD using the following method:

1.Have both eyes looking at an object about 20 meters straight ahead when measuring PD.
2.Please have a third party (friend or relative) take the measurement as this will increase accuracy.
3.Remember to take your measurement starting from “0” of the ruler, not the edge.
4.To insure accuracy, please convert your measurements to mm. Refer to the picture below for an example.
